Recently, I have been on a quest to find all the songs from Little Monsters. The one song that has eluded me and for the most part, every other Little Monsters fan out there is Billie Hughes' Magic of the Night. The song is a rarity because well, it was NEVER RELEASED. Along with some other songs. Beyond that song, LM has proved to have one of the more memorable collection of songs from the 80's.
Billie Hughes- I Wanna Yell
Nick Lowe- I Love the Sound of Breaking Glass
Paladeins- Let's Go
Bobby Day- Little Bitty Pretty One
Talking Heads- Road to Nowhere
The soundtrack that is on Amazon consists of David Newman's (relation to Thomas Newman???) score.
Well after months of searching, the closest I got was a downloadable file on a Little Monsters related forum. The sound is MPEG 3 Audio and it contains most of the tracks. Magic of the Night is there, but with the sound effects from the movie still in. I guess this is the closest I ever will get unless someone finds a way to extrapulate the film sounds from that track. If there's anyone out there looking for it I'll be happy to direct them to this site where I found the file.
I plan on reigniting this fire very soon...

Below is the Soundcloud link or Soundcloud search you can use to get to my 1989 original demo of "Magic Of The Night" that Billie Hughes learned the song from to perform his vocal. I am the composer & producer of the song. This demo has ME singing the lead vocal & is the exact music and my background vocals that are heard in the movie. It is from a cassette that I finally found, but the quality is pretty good. The good thing is, there is no movie dialog or sound effects on it!
Many fans of the song have contacted me over the years about getting this version and now...Here it is...I am so sorry that a version with Billie Hughes singing it has never been found. (Yet!) ..But this is the same version of music and BG vocals that Billie sang to....

I've also looked for the untouched version of "Magic of the Night" before, and thought it was strange it was never released. Nice to know I'm not the only one!
ReplyDeleteI remember looking for this song about 10 years ago. I remember I was in a forum that claimed to have located either, Mike Piccirillo
ReplyDeleteor Billie Hughes (I can't remember which) and said that he had the only copy and that he was going to send them a copy of the song. Alas, I watched that thread daily for over 2 years and nothing ever came of it. I think they were just trolling all of us desperate fools.
